Founded in 2020, SafeTX educates Austin and Travis County voters on public safety issues. Austin City Council candidates were asked to consider signing the SafeTX Public Safety Pledge. Pledge responses are posted when received.
Funding for EMS, Fire, and Police
EMS, Fire, and Police budgets have not kept pace with Austin’s rapid growth. First responders need adequate resources to ensure public safety.
I will support responsible public safety funding in the city budget.
Expanding Training
Austin EMS, Fire, and Police share a training campus, which has only been expanded once since it opened in 1982.
I will support expanding public safety training capacity.
Lower Attrition Rates
Austin EMS, Fire, and Police resignations and retirements are increasing. The city should work to slow uniformed attrition in Austin’s public safety departments.
I will support programs to keep experienced first responders on the job.
Improving Police Staffing
Austin Police Department has a new scientific, data-driven police staffing model. We should use the machine learning model and recommendations to determine staffing levels.
I will support efforts to achieve police staffing model recommendations.
Approving Police Contract
The Austin City Council will consider a new police contract by March 2023.
I will support efforts to keep police officers under contract.
